“Death and pathology begin in the colon. There are only 2 ways to die: Oldness and Bowel Diseases. Almost all diseases are produced by a dirty bowel where the fecal material is absorbed into the blood, attacking our weakest part (the bowels). If the bowels are blocked, weakened or not working regularly and efficiently then there is a higher burden and stress on the other channels and this puts pressure on all the other systems”
Dr. Bernard Jensen, Pioneer Iridologist, Holistic Nutritionist.
Your digestive system (commonly thought of as the gut) is the single most important thing you have. It takes the food you eat; then fuels, rebuilds and repairs every part of your body – every system, every cell. Your brain is NOT, repeat, NOT, in charge. Your bowels and digestive system are in complete control of your health. The digestive system affects every system in the body. If it is working well, then the rest of the body is generally happy and functioning well.
All human health starts in the digestive system
Your intestines have a super-important job to do. They select the good nutrients from our foods and reject the toxic materials and metabolic by-products. Your digestive system is naturally programmed to empty your bowels (like flushing the toilet) after every meal, to make room for the new waste food on its way down. Your colon is your body’s internal toilet and sewage system. Eat then eliminate, eat then eliminate, eat then eliminate; just like a baby.
How does it all work?
Your mouth starts to break down foods via your teeth grinding and salivary enzymes. At birth we have a back-up enzyme reserve. We can keep that reserve full through proper nutrition. If you eat enough raw, sprouted and fermented enzyme-rich foods, and chew your food properly, then you will help protect this precious enzyme factory. These pre-digested foods break down to around 75% before your stomach introduces hydrochloric acid. This then inactivates all of the enzymes, breaks down what is left and sends the nutrient-rich mix to the small intestine. This is your main absorption area, filled with little hair-like fingers called villi which grab onto food nutrients as they float by. Once it is there, the pancreas reintroduces digestive enzymes to the process, digestion is completed, and nutrients are absorbed through the thin intestinal wall to be transported inside the blood to wherever they are needed throughout the body.
Keep your bowel healthy and most health problems are offset.
