Today I speak about the time required to truly get well and stay well. Transforming your health and curing disease can often take up to a year - going through all four seasons while embedding new habits. It takes time. The human body works at its own pace.
The only difference between a dead person and a living person is movement. Moving is what you should focus on: moving, rather than exercise. All the longest-lived people walk daily. Do not underestimate the power of a fast-paced walk every day.
The exercise summary is simply; walk, swim, stretch, lift heavy things and occasionally sprint like your life depends on it! We evolved through: walking, running, throwing, swimming, jumping, carrying and climbing. So walk, sprint, lift weights, stretch and swim.
The illusion that every government department wants you to believe and every food company wants you to believe, is that you lose weight through exercise. Diet comes first, then sleep, then routine, then a rebuilt microbiome, then stress management, then exercise.
Part 1 of 3. Weight loss is a simple process for the body but a trickier process for the mind. What are the things we need to change? What behaviours need to shift? What do we need to put in place? What are the most important things I should focus on?
Think movement not exercise. Try to find movement activities which you really enjoy and don’t require too much mental effort. Take pleasure in physical activities. Find something you enjoy and make it a daily habit and don't get stressed about exercise!
Walking dramatically lowers your risk of all lifestyle disease; be it stroke, arthritis, osteoporosis, cancers, heart disease, depression, stress, asthma, mental decline, diabetes or obesity. Walk, walk and then when you cannot walk anymore; walk some more.
Stretching is the second most important exercise to do from your 30s onwards. Flexibility gives you better oxygen flow, a younger body, a calmer mind, a better blood flow and circulation to protect your heart. Just 10 minutes daily.
This is a series of exercise videos we filmed years ago for our ‘My 20 GOLDEN Weeks’ course. They were very popular and are still extremely relevant so here they all are in full! Here is Exercise #1: The Yogic Rites (little Joel is taller than me now hahaha).
