Coffee and pregnancy do not mix

For those who follow my blog you will know I am no fan of coffee, with the negative studies continuing to emerge.

This new research as published in the International Journal of Obesity, 2014, looked at 829 new mothers and their “maternal caffeine consumption during pregnancy”.

The children were followed for 15 years and were controlled for the usual other lifestyle factors.

What did they find?

Regular coffee exposure during pregnancy was linked to an 87% increased risk of childhood obesity

For women who consumed >150mg/day of caffeine/coffee, the risk of childhood obesity was over 100%

Every extra serving of caffeine increased risk by 23%
