Alcohol weakens the heart and offers no cardiovascular benefits

Here we are again at Dry July.  I love it.  I was lucky enough to give up alcohol at age 18 after realizing that it really did not agree with me and I was only drinking because everyone else was drinking.  it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

The marketing of alcohol to “improve your health” is patently incorrect if you ask the experts.

  • Drinking alcohol (creating ethyl alcohol) is a toxic substance known for its ability to damage normal function in the body’s cardiovascular system
  • Drinking alcohol creates a metabolic side product called acetaldehyde, which the World Health organisation confirms is high level cancer-causing
  • Excessive alcohol consumption creates high blood pressure (the #1 cause of death for New Zealander’s and most of the world)
  • Alcohol can cause a form of heart failure known as alcoholic cardiomyopathy
