Pre-diabetes rate in England is now almost as high as the USA rate

Sadly, as the UK follows the American diet more and more into ‘takeaway-land’, the more overweight and unwell they become.

A British Medical Journal Open study by Professors Arch Mainous and Richard Baker from the University of Florida’s College of Public Health and Health Professions, has found:

  • Around 35% of adults in England have pre-diabetes
  • Around 35% of adults in the USA have pre-diabetes
  • The English pre-diabetes rate was 12% in 2003
  • The English pre-diabetes rate is now 35% in 2014

Study by Professors Arch Mainous and Richard Baker from the University of Florida’s College of Public Health and Health Professions, as published in the British Medical Journal Open, June 2014.  The study analyzed data from 2003, 2006, 2009 and 2011 by the National Health Survey for England.  As reported by Reuters on June 11, 2014.
