Diabetes directly linked to cancer
Too much sugar feeds cancer, kills your liver (which saves your life if you get cancer), and gives you diabetes.
It is estimated that 1,638,910 new cases of cancer were diagnosed in the United States alone in 2012 and more than 577,000 died from the disease.
What is the link between type II diabetes and cancer?
- Diabetes doubles the risk of liver cancer, cancer of the pancreas and endometrial cancer
- Diabetes increases the risk of colorectal, breast, and bladder cancer by 205-50%
- Diabetes appears to give post-menopausal women a 27% higher risk of developing breast cancer
The diabetes/cancer connection is according to an expert panel from the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society and the International Prevention Research Institute, 2013.
