Diabetes now in 1 in 8 Americans in 2013
I have predicted this for years though in an instance like this it is very sad being right about it – just look at the staggering numbers.
“Type II diabetes has become one of the most common and fastest growing diseases. Fully one in eight adults - approximately 29 million people - now report that they have been diagnosed with this dangerous condition”
Harris Poll Chairman, Humphrey Taylor.
The 2013 Harris Interactive/HealthDay poll suggests:
- One in eight Americans has been diagnosed with type II diabetes
- More than one third of those polled have been diagnosed with diabetes or have a parent, sibling, spouse or child with the condition
“People need to be aware that stroke is another disease caused by diabetes that can be prevented. The idea of having a stroke might motivate them to change their lifestyle”
Nancy Copperman, director of Public Health Initiatives at North Shore-LIJ Health System in Great Neck, N.Y.
