Scottish obesity in boys age 2-4 grows 60% in two years
There is an illusion that most of the problems with weight are in the USA, this is not the case at all. All Western countries are getting bigger and sicker, younger.
“These figures show we have a severe problem at both ends. Not only is the number of people dying from obesity rising, but more toddlers than ever are being registered obese. What more warning could we possibly need that this crisis has to be addressed? And it has to be addressed at once”
Health Spokesman Jackson Carlaw, June 2013.
The latest Scottish Government numbers at June 2013 show:
- Obesity in boys aged 2-4 was 10.4% just two years ago
- Now it is 16%
- And growing fast
- The obese number over 16 increased from 24.7% to 26% in three years
- Obesity was mentioned 212 times on death certificates in 2011
- It was 181 in 2007
