Meat drastically increases risk for diabetes and heart disease

Eat processed meat at your peril…

The mega-sized meta-analysis found:

  1. Eating just 50 grams per day of processed meat was associated with a 42% increased risk of coronary heart disease
  2. Eating just 50 grams per day of processed meat was associated with a 51% increased risk of type II diabetes
  3. Eating just 100 grams of unprocessed red meat per day was linked with a 19% increased risk for type II diabetes

Study consisting of a meta-analysis of data from prospective cohort studies by D. Mozaffarian at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, MA and colleagues, as published in Current Atherosclerosis Reports in October 2012. As reported on Sunday September 30, 2012 by Food Consumer.
