Junk food sales soar in New Zealand - just like the rest of the world

New Zealanders continue to eat more junk food in record amounts year after year and many people wonder why we are so sick.

What do the brand new 2013 Hospitality Report, Restaurant Association and Auckland University of Technology figures tell us?

The NZ Herald reports:

  • Annual junk food spending reaches $1.5 billion, an increase of 25% in just four years
  • Kiwis ate their way through $1.5 billion worth of takeaways last year - a leap of more than 9% on the previous 12 months
  • That equates to about $330 - enough to buy 63 Big Macs - for every man, woman and child in the country
