Breastfeeding in infancy can protect adults from depression

A new study has suggested that breastfeeding sets you up mentally stronger and more able to cope with life.

The German research compared 52 people being treated for major depression with 106 healthy people who had never been diagnosed with depression.

They found 73% of those without depression had been breast-fed and 46% of people with depression were breast-fed.

The association held when researchers took into account age, gender and the mother’s level of education.

Study published in the journal Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, 2012.  As reported by MyHealthNewsDaily.com in September 2012.
