Olive oil may protect the bones of older men
This small randomized Spanish study found older men at risk of cardiovascular disease who consumed a Mediterranean diet - rich in olive oil and olives - had lower rates of osteoporosis.
The researchers saw that the olive oil or olive intake was what drove the difference.
Osteoporosis is less common in those areas eating the traditional Mediterranean diet than in the rest of Europe.
Olive oil has also been associated with prevention of osteoporosis in various animal and in vitro studies.
