Breast Cancer linked to lack of sleep and shift work yet again
Sleep is so important. It is linked to almost everything that goes wrong with the human body, from cancer growth, to skin health, to energy levels to your immune system. Get more sleep if you want to lower your risk of disease.
What did the study say?
The French researchers from the Centre for research in Epidemiology and Population Health examined 1,200 shift-working women who developed breast cancer over a three-year period and compared them with those of 1,300 non-shift-working women.
They found that women working night shift have a 30% higher risk of breast cancer.
Study researcher Pascal Guenel said “Our work has corroborated the results of previous studies and poses the problem of taking night work into consideration in public health management, especially since the number of women working atypical hours is on the increase”.
A June 2012 published study in the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine, also showed ‘shift work in women heightens breast cancer risk’.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) considers shift work “possibly carcinogenic”.
