I was recently interviewed for a functional foods article by the Herald on Sunday. They were looking into foods, superfoods, functional foods and what is meant by the terms.
To me it is simple: almost all natural plant-based wholefoods are superfood functional foods! If they feed the body abundant amounts of goodness, help you remove waste and deliver energy and anti-disease components, then they are fully functional superfoods!
Apples, grapefruit, celery, spirulina, spinach, avocado, nuts and seeds, legumes, brown rice and hundreds more – these all match these terms completely. If your diet is based on these types of foods then you will find it hard to go wrong.
