If you drink alcohol right next to me, it does not turn me into an alcoholic, nor does it get me drunk, nor do you give me lung cancer, nor do I suffer any aftereffects. If you eat 12 doughnuts while we are having a conversation and the crumbs drop on the floor, this does not give the toddlers who crawl on that floor emphysema. When you drink fizzy drinks outside you do not give the kid downwind heart disease.
That is the difference; Smoking kills everyone — not just the smoker.
Smoking kills innocent bystanders as well as killing you. If you smoke around me I am forced to breathe in the chemicals, I am forced to take into my body the carcinogenic toxins that may kill me. I am forced to lower the amount of oxygen available to my lungs, my brain, and my heart. I am forced to take in nicotine that may cause me to take up smoking and crave the ‘hit’. As we have seen, non-smokers come into contact with deadly levels of cigarette smoke regularly by walking down the street.
Fresh air is the #1 requirement for human life
Smoke next to me in a public park and my rights and my choices disappear. Cigarette smoking is not about freedom, it is about anti-freedom. It is a fascist intrusion, an insult, environmental dominance and the worst kind of chemical abuse. Parents smoke around children; then their children die young. Innocent children are forced to play on carpet drenched in toxic carcinogenic chemicals from cigarettes.
The most important right a human being has is clean oxygen, as without it we die. Oxygen is the single most fundamental requirement of a human being. It is the basic mechanism for human survival, growth, vitality, health and longevity. Does a man-made drug, sold for profit have more rights than our right to clean air? How have we allowed big business and unchecked greed to annihilate our rights for so long?
Banning cigarettes is about protecting human life
Try surviving without money and you can do fine. Try surviving without cigarettes and you do even better; living almost twice as long. Try surviving without oxygen and you will be dead in less than 10 minutes. Do not get fooled into thinking that this fight is about anything other than profits versus life. It is actually that simple. The cigarette companies try to sell you their ‘right to make money’ as being more important than your right to breathe fresh air and stay alive. No amount of money will ever be enough to replace the miracle of life. The fight to ban cigarettes is simply the most important fight for health the human race has ever had.
Banning cigarettes is a matter of life and death. It is that important.
