Asthma: References
  1. Study published in the journal Respirology in April 2013. As reported by livescience.com on 6 June 2013. 
  2. Study by Associate Professor and Nutritional Biochemist Lisa Wood, Head of the Nutrition programme at the Centre for Asthma and Respiratory Diseases, University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia, and colleagues, as presented at the 2014 meeting of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ).  The researchers studied the diets of 99 people with stable asthma and 61 healthy controls. Participants underwent blood tests and spirometry was performed to test their lung function. As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, ABC News and Exchange Magazine on April 8, 2014. 
  3. Study by Canadian doctors at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, 2012. The ongoing research has confirmed that children who eat a lot of vegetables lower their risk of asthma. The Canadian researchers followed 476 kids aged 11-14 through detailed questioning together with their parents about their eating habits in the last year and had specialised assessments for asthma. As reported by freshplaza.com on July 16, 2012.
  4. Study on more than 33,000 different genetic mutations, in more than 11,000 people of varied ethnicities, by Ober C, Igartua C, Myers RA, Mathias RA, Eng C, and Graves PE, researchers from the University of Chicago Medical Center “Ethnic-specific associations of rare and low-frequency DNA sequence variants with asthma” as published in the journal Nature Communications, January 2015.
  5. ‘The Longevity Risk and Reward for Middle-Income Americans’ surveyed 500 Americans aged 55 to 75 and found that declining health is the number one concern for middle-income Americans. Survey by the Bankers Life and Casualty Company Center for a Secure Retirement. Reported by PRNewswire, 2 April 2013.
  6. ‘There is concern, and a lot of literature to support it, that there will be a generation of children who will die before their parents. They will be so fat that they will develop diabetes, cancer, heart disease — there’s an endless list.’ From Cardiff and Vale University Health Board statistics.   7. Norm R.C. Campbell, MD, from the University of Calgary in Alberta, and colleagues. ‘As a result, it is predicted the next generation will live a shorter life span. If this occurs, it will be the first decline in life span since industrialization.’ The Canadian Journal of Cardiology (online edition), 2012.

  9. This economic longevity research study by The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), was released to health reporters and researchers at the Association of Health Care Journalists Atlanta conference on 18 April 2012.
